Haruki Homura lives alone in Hokkaido's icy landscape. He can't help but despise the dismal, colorless world around him, despite hiding all his feelings in his lonely heart. One day, Haruki encounters the outgoing photographer Akihito Narumi, who has traveled from Tokyo to shoot the elusive snow fairies.
Haruki chooses to let Narumi remain at his home for the winter because he has nowhere else to stay in the snow. Haruki gradually softens up to the majesty of the world around him as the affable photographer breaks open his host's frozen heart. As they grow closer, these polar opponents begin to fear the coming of spring, knowing that their time together will come to an end once the cold winter is over.
